Do Not Grow Weary!

Galatians 6:9 says, "Let us not grow weary in well-doing,
for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."

Since returning to the United States, I have begun to feel the tug of complacency. I can get in my SUV, grab my coffee, and walk across our beautifully groomed campus to my lovely office every day. I can then return to my heated home, my big comfy bed, and sleep with a roof over my head!

It has been pulling at me. "You are blessed. It is easier just to sit in the comfort of your home"

Tugging..."It is easier to say no, that date won't work to come speak about the children of Sierra Leone."

Dragging me in, "Why bother sponsoring a child, or two, or three...God blessed you, just accept it! You want nice things in your home!"

IT -the tug - the pull - the dragging down to complacency....it is Satan! He does not want me to remain on fire for these children. He does not want me to work overtime to bring change! He does not want Christ's love to shine!

And then these pictures of Lucy arrive in my inbox from my friend Tracy:

And I think, "Get away Satan! God has given me a mission, and at the risk
of becoming the girl who never stops talking about Sierra Leone, I will complete it!"

May God help me to never become complacent! To never grow weary! To never lose sight of His will in my life!

  1. Jen - I read your post earlier today and was thinking about it and thought of Revelation 3 where Jesus talks about the church at Laodicea

v.15-16 "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth."

Wow ... those are pretty harsh words. The God we serve hates complacency and He makes it pretty clear. He also gives you the desires of your heart. You are listening to your heart and how the LORD is speaking to you. Many times HE speaks and we don't listen or we choose to ignore.

Thank you for the remindar that all complacency and laziness is from the enemy ... and our all consuming passion and desires are of the LORD!

    ALL for HIS Glory,

    Jill

  2. You are so right Jen. Sometimes when you get in the routine of "everyday life" you just become content but that is NOT what God wants. When you become content it becomes easy to stop searching for God's will in your life and God's will is never ending during our days here and we should never stop seeking that. We should never become satisfied with just being content. Even when his will isn't clear and he wants us to be patient and wait on him, he never wants us to "sleep" while we wait. We should constantly pursue the parts of his will for our lives that he has revealed.

I'm enjoying catching up on your blog and experiences in Africa. Lucy is beautiful. I'm so happy for you that you got to meet her and everyone else you came in contact with while you were in Africa. Keep pursuing the direction God has given you!

    Miss you lots!
